Birth and Nationality
I am James Troy High the first born, and only son of James Bernice High, Jr. , and Reba Ruth Hill . Both paternal and maternal relationships have been confirmed through DNA testing.
I was born on 8 Mar 1971 in Hillingdon, London, England, United Kingdom. [1] My Father James, was 23 and my Mother, Reba, was 22.
Troy & Mom, 3 weeks old
NOTE: My parents, both of whom are Americans, were living in the UK (United Kingdom) at the time of my birth, due to my Father being in the USAF (United States Air Force), and stationed in England.
NOTE: Due to the laws in effect at the time, and being born on UK soil in 1971, I have dual citizenship in both the USA and UK. This dual citizenship was recognized by both governments upon birth, with birth certificates issued from both countries at the same time.
Ethnicity / Genetics
According to 23andMe DNA testing results, my Ancestry Composition is predominantly of European ancestry ( 99.4% ), with trace DNA ( 0.6% ) from non-European sources from both parent lines.
On my Patrilineal line, I am a descendant of Thomas High of Surry County, Colonial Virginia.[2]
Trace Non-European Ancestry
6. West African DNA - 0.3%
7. North African DNA - 0.1%
8. Siberian - 0.1%
9. Unassigned (likely Amerindian) - 0.1%
Trace Ancestry Sub-total: 0.6%
NOTE: By researching my family tree, and reviewing the DNA testing results of my parents and numerous 1st cousins on both sides, I have found non-European DNA through both paternal and maternal lines.
My Paternal great-grandmother Lillie Mae Manning who has Bass/Basse ancestors going back to Jamestown, Colonial Virginia.
My ancestor, John Basse married Elizabeth (Nansemond) Basse of the Nansemond Indians and their descendants later married a descendant of the Bunch/Punch line, likely descending from John Punch, a person of West African descent who is believed to be the first enslaved person in Colonial Virginia.[4][5]
On my maternal line, my Great-grandfather Brooks Heading has the Brooks surname in his line which hails back to John Brooks aka John Brooke who was part of the Lost Colony expedition, Roanoke in what is now Dare county, North Carolina. This John Brooks married a native woman from the Croatoans who was taken back to England and produced offspring that ultimately lead to my mother's Hill family line. This native woman was a Tenth great-grandmother of mine.
Birth of Only Sibling
I have one younger sister Donna Kay High and no brothers. She was also born in England, United Kingdom, and is likewise a dual citizen of the USA and UK.
