Biography

Manoel Nunes was born before 1678 in Lisbon, Portugal. He was the legitimate son of Manoel Nunes and Maria Rodrigues. Manoel married Izabel Rodrigues^[1] on the 8th of November 1695 in the parish of Canhas.^[2] They both died before 1760 when their granddaughter Luzia married.^[1]

On the eighth day of the month November 1695 in this Parochial Church of Our Lady of Mercy in Canhas, after the running of the banns and in the form of the Sacred Council of Trent, with no impediments except for the 3° affinity with dispensation from His Holiness, and know Joana Rodrigues and Manoel Fernandes Galho; the Joana Rodrigues born here to Maria dos Neves, Maria dos Neves of/was the first wife sealed with Manoel Nunes and the Manoel Fernandes Galho born here to Izabel Moniz, and born here Izabel Rodrigues, they received the blessings one Manoel Nunes Carbeiro, a widower, son of Manoel Nunes and his wife Maria Rodrigues, natives of Lisbon in the Kingdom of Portugal, the parish of São Estrella, the neighborhood of Alfama; with Izabel Rodrigues, daughter of Manoel Fernandes Forreiro and his wife Izabel Rodrigues, now deceased, both of this parish. The witnesses present were Joam Berreto de Moniz and Agustinho Cezar Berenquez who signed with me. Vicar Sebastio Marquez.^[3]

Note: This record is heavily abbreviated and some of the ink is faded to an almost unreadable level. It was difficult to translate. Other records would need to be found to sort out the consanguinity. With a 3° affinity there will be a common great-grandparent.
