Biography
Tabitha Wheaton, born 23 Feb 1732 at Swansea, Massachusetts, probably was a daughter of Deborah (Hilliard) and Capt. Isaac Wheaton [1] (no image is evident).
She married about 23 May 1751 in Stonington, Connecticut, Israel (Hewitt) Hewit (1723-1784). Twelve children proceeded from this union, born in Stonington:
- Mary Hewitt, b. 25 Feb 1752; died young
- Israel Hewitt, b. 15 Sep 1753
- Mary (Hewitt; 1755-1834); married 1) John Williams; 2) Josiah Grant; 3) Moses Graves
- Cynthia (Hewitt; 1757-1786); married Stephen Billings
- Israel Hewitt (1758-1834); married Sarah Williams
- Nancy (Hewitt; 1760-1844); married George Williams
- Wheaton Hewitt (1763-bef.1783)
- Dudley Hewitt (1765-1849)

- Russell Hewitt (1769-1832)
- Darius Hewitt (1771-abt.1802); married Wealthy Avery

On 20 Dec 1785, Tabitha wrote her will naming sons, Dudley, Russell and Darius Hewitt, executors of her estate (Stonington Probate Records, docket #1645). Her will mentioned her 5 sons: Israel, Dudley, Gurden, Russell and Darius; and her 4 daughters: Mary, wife of Josiah Grant; Cynthia, wife of Stephen Billings; Nancy, wife of George Williams; and Diadama Hewitt. The court appointed Tabitha's son-in-law, George Williams, guardian for the four youngest children on 7 March 1786, since they were minors at the time of their mother's death.
Tabitha (Wheaton) Hewit died 21 Jan 1786 at Stonington. Her grave is in Hewitt Cemetery, North Stonington, New London County, Connecticut, USA [2].
