Biography

William was born at Carthage, now Maine, in 1819, the son of William Hunt and Nizolla Gould.

He married Clarissa Mitchell at Patten, Maine on 10 Oct 1844. They were the parents of five known children:

  • Mary E Hunt b. 3 Sep 1845 at Crosby Plantation, Maine, d. 25 Apr 1812 at Sherman, Maine
  • Martha Jane Hunt b. 15 Feb 1847 at Sherman, d. 20 Mar 1922 at Millinocket, Maine
  • Ellen 'Ella' Hunt b. 1849, Penobscot, Maine, d. 7 Jun 1853 at Maine
  • Ella Hunt b. 1857, Maine, d. 1 Feb 1879
  • Otis M Hunt b. 1864 at Sherman, d. 1931

The 1850 US census for T3, R7, Penobscot County, Maine conducted 12 August 1850 lists residents William Hunt Jr (30), a farmer, Clarisa V (24), Mary E (4), Jane (3), Ella (4 months), Silas Mitchell (23), a laborer, Clarinda Mitchell (17), Patrick Laughler (33), born in Ireland, a laborer, and Clarisa Hunt (25). Other families in the area are those of William's brothers John Hunt (33), a farmer, and Charles Hunt (35), a farmer, and their families.

The 1860 US census for T3. R6 Penobscot County, Maine lists residents William Hunt (40), a farmer, Clarasy [sic] Hunt (40), Mary Hune (15), a student, James Hunt (13), a student, Ellen Hunt (11), a student, laborers Henry Morrill (60), Dean Meant (58), Oren Smith (50), and Thorpe Perry (35). All were born in Maine. William owns real estate valued at $1500 and has a personal estate valued at $ 135.

The 1870 US census for Sherman, Maine lists residents William Hunt (48), a farmer, Clara V (42), keeping house, Ella A (13), Otis M (6), Mary E Merriam (24), and Jennie Merriam (). William owns real estate valued at $1200 and has a personal estate valued at $600.

The 1880 US census for Sherman, Maine lists residents William Hunt (60), a farmer, Clarisa [sic] V (51), and Otis M (16), a student.

William passed away in 1889 and is buried at the Sherman Corner Cemetery #1 at Sherman, Maine.
