Biography

David Darling was born in 1705. He died on 29 December 1784, aged 79, and is buried with his (second) wife Ruth (Samson) in Center Cemetery, Pembroke, Plymouth, Massachusetts. [1]

He married Mercy Churchill on 6 January 1732 in Plympton.[2]

David is mentioned as the father of his son Samuel Darling, who was born 17 August 1735 in Plympton, Massachusetts. [3]

He married his second wife Ruth Sampson on 9 June 1742 in Plympton.

In 1751, his son Samuel (above the age of 14 years) made the choice of his father David to be the guardian of the estate that he inherited from Samuel's maternal grandfather, Samuel Churchill.[4]


Probate

The will of David Darling of Pembroke, yeoman was dated 14 February 1784 and proved on 18 February 1785 in Plymouth. He mentions his children, Samuel Darling, John Darling, decd., Benjamin Darling (executor), and Mercy Richardson, wife of Stephen Richardson (executor). His inventory was taken on 19 February 1785 in Pembroke.[5]


NOTE: only the father is mentioned on the birth record. David married Ruth Samson on 9 June 1743. He was married first, on 6 Jan 1732 to Mercy Churchill, who died in 1737. Mercy was Samuel’s mother.
