Biography

Scottish flag
Elizabeth Brisbane was born in Scotland.

Elizabeth was the third daughter of john Brisbane of Bishopton, Renfrewshire. [1][2][3][4]

She married James Shaw.[2][4] They had issue:

  1. James[2][5][6]

Research Notes

Elizabeth was certainly born after the marriage of her parents on 24 Dec 1595 and assuming a minimum of nine months after that date one infers her birth post Sep 1596. Her mother died on 8 Mar 1698 so one can infer that it was on or before that date. The resulting range then is from Sep 1596 to Mar 1608 or circa Jun 1602 +/- six years.
Some of the attached references are for an Elizabeth[7][8][9] not Isabella and that Elizabeth had only one child, James.
The mystery might be solved by sources that state that an Isabel Brisbane married a James Shaw and that couple had a son James who married Elizabeth Brisbane.[10] That couple then had a son James who married his first cousin, Elizabeth Brisbane. That James Shaw had a wife named Elizabeth Brisbane, a mother named Elizabeth Brisbane, and a grandmother, Isabel Brisbane the object of this profile.
The given name 'Isabella' for the wife of James Shaw is clear giveen that it is etched the armorial esceutcheon on the doorway at the Castle of Ballygally which bears the initial I.S. (Latin did not have a letter 'J' rather simply 'I') and I.B.[11]

Brisbane-93 and Brisbane-115 appear to represent the same person because: Isabella appears to be short for Bella ( elizabeth. )

I do not see a daughter of John Brisbane and Harriet Blair named Isabella Brisbane in 'Commoners' rather one named Elizabeth (Brisbane-93) married to the same James Shaw. There is a second Elizabeth (Brisbane-116), a granddaughter of John and Harriet through their eldest son John who also had a daughter who married a James Shaw (son of the first James Shaw). It is understood that Isabella is a variant of Elizabeth and possibly a merge is required but the set of children does not seem to fit those of either Elizabeth . . . at least not with just a casual glance although a careful study might reveal more. Thoughts?
