Klaas Bruinsma was born in Oosterend (Hinnaarderadeel; now Súdwest-Fryslân), he was the second youngest in a family of 6 children. His father, who was a gendarme, was killed in the war; he was deported in retaliation for the fact that the Germans could not get hold of his eldest son, who was in the resistance.
Klaas Bruinsma was a Frisian language translator of historical works from Dutch, Spanish and Greek, among others.
