Biography

Daniel M. Bland was born was born between 1823 and 1830, in Shelby county, Tennessee, a son of Cornelius Bland. [1] Daniel was listed as twenty years of age on the 1850 Census of Shelby county, Tennessee (he may have been younger) and was a laborer, living on the farm of his brother Addison Bland and Elizabeth (Massey) Bland, who were only 23 and 21 years of age, with a two month old son named Cornelius. With them is also their 17 year old sister Sarah Jane Bland. This assumes that their father had passed away prior to 1850. On the same census record, on a neighboring farm, Daniel's future wife, 18 year old Lucinda Peel is found, living in the household with her parents, Michael C. Peel and Elizabeth Peel. [2]

On December 1, 1853, in Shelby county, Tennessee, Daniel married Lucinda E. Peel. [3] Daniel and Lucinda moved first to Oklahoma, where they are found on the 1900 census, and then and then "West at Cane" in Washington County, just adjacent to Benton County Arkansas, where Daniel died June 3, 1905. Children of Daniel and Lucinda are:

  • M.E. Bland (1854 - ) a female, (perhaps a phonetic of Emmy) who was gone from her parents home by 1880.
  • Charles W. Bland, born January 17, 1860, died September 24, 1905, married Mary "Molly" Hartley
  • Addison Franklin Bland, born January 30, 1863, died April 13, 1931
  • Lewis Calvin Bland, born March 1, 1867, in Tennessee, died February 18, 1939, in Tulsa county, Oklahoma, married 1) Eliza Jane Graham and 2) Viola (nee?)
  • Virginia Elizabeth Bland born October 6, 1868, in Tennessee, died August 19, 1954, in Sand Springs Oklahoma, married William Eugene Ellis

Daniel is buried in the New Hope Cemetery, in Washington county, Arkansas. There is a photograph of his obelisk shaped grave marker on his Find A Grave memorial. [4]
