Biography

George was born September 7, 1881 in Sumner County, Tennessee. He was the son of Benjamin Lewis and Florence Bruce.

On September 12, 1918 he registered for the WWI draft in Decatur, Wise, Texas. He is listed as George Washington Lewis born on September 7, 1881. His wife Cecil P. Lewis is listed as his nearest relative and he is listed as a farmer. George is described as medium height, stout build, with gray eyes and black hair. [1]

He passed away August 11, 1940 in Wichita Falls, Wichita, Texas. [2][3] George was laid to rest in Oaklawn Cemetery, Decatur, Wise, Texas, United States. [4]

Research Notes

George was born in 1881 as shown on his draft registration card. His death certificate and headstone both state he was born in 1886. His death certificate also states his mother was Alma Wallace but her maiden name was Bruce. Florence Alma Bruce mother's maiden name was Wallace.
