Biography

Flag of Essex (historic flag)
Thomas Crochrode was born in Essex, England.

Thomas Crochrode, Gentle. sonne and heire whoe went wt the Erle of Oxford to Agencourte[1]

Thomas was the son of Robert Crochrode whoe lived in the tyme of Kinge Edward 3d at 15 of his Raynge 1341[1] King Edward the Third reigned from 1327-1377.

The Earl of Oxford, Richard deVere, in August of 1412, sailed to Normandy to aid the Armagnac party against the Burgundians, according to Visitations, Robert Crochrode went with him.[2] The Battle of Agincourt happened on 25 October 1415.[3] According to the author Ann Curry, in Great Battles Series, mentioning this battle in the Visitations was a way to validate the Crochrode pedigree. [4]

On the 1612 Visitation, Thomas' mother wasn't mentioned, nor was a wife for Thomas.[1] So far there doesn't appear to be any sources pointing to who his wife or mother was. What is known is he had one son, John Crochrode Esquier.[1]

Research Notes

Robert's dates are based on time-line given in Visitations.[1]
