His parents are given in a pedigree files as John Tregaskis (b. 1749) and Constance Luke (b. 1754). A John Tregaskis, resident of Gwennap, did indeed marry a Constance Luke, 08 Dec 1781, in Truro, Cornwall. The marriage was witnessed by a Henry Luke. John jnr's Baptism date was 15 Mar 1785 with parents given as John and Constance[1]
In 1851 John was a "Agent To Bilson Coal Compy" working in Gloucestershire, England[2]:
John Tregaskis Head Male 66 Gwennap, Cornwall
Margaret Tregaskis Wife Female 64 Gwennap, Cornwall
John J Tregaskis Son Male 18 Swansea, Glamorganshire
Johanna Davey Servant Female 20 Gwennap, Cornwall
The names of John and Margaret appear as the parents on their son William Attwood Tregaskis's birth record[3]
"'Marriage theories'"
A John Tregaskis married a Margaret Skewes 21 Mar 1811 in Gwennap, Cornwall[4] Others say that his wife was Margaret Edwards who he married 21 March 1811 in Gwennap, Cornwall[5] Possibly the same person. She is given in the pedigree file as born 1786, born Gwennap, Cornwall and died 1855 in Swansea. That a grandson was called William skewes Tregaskis seems to confirm that that Skewes was Margaret's surname.

Her maiden name was Margaret Edwards, daughter of Henry Edwards and his wife Patience, nee Williams. William Skewes died and the widowed Margaret Skewes married John Tregaskis on 21 March 1811. They had 8 sons and 2 daughters. To confuse issues, the brother of John Tregaskis named Richard (1782-1842) married Mary Skewes.
John Tregaskis and his wife Margaret also had a son named Richard who was born in Gwennap Parish in Cornwall c 1814 and who married Susan Lewis in Swansea, Glamorgan, in 1842. Richard and Susan were my great-great grandparents. They emigrated to Australia, arriving in 1855. Richard died in 1894 in Ballarat, Victoria. Susan died in 1857 in Maldon, Victoria, Australia.
