from Carole Bartlett MacKay, Sep 1999:
I found a couple of Bentleys in the 1860 census. Did not copy carefully, because I wasn't sure they were related. So I'll probably go back and have another go at it. Sophia Bentley 65 WF Domestic $14,890. N.Y.
Different household. Perry? or Preston? A. Bentley 40 WM Farmer $2500 $1116 N.Y. Mary 38 WF Domestic Preston 8 WM son Frank R. 6 WM son Ada W. or M. 5 WF I wonder is Preston could be son of Miller.

[reply by Steve] Carole, you missed it!
He *is* Miller. Perry Miller Bentley! :)
Once again, fantastic find on your part!
I did suggest it sooner, with the census you had found, where the ages matched Miller and his wife Mary Howard. But you were saying the middle initial was A, not M, so that threw us off.
You had two of the children in that census, Ada and Preston. But the ages were a decade or so off.

from Carole, Oct 1999:
I found a Perry Bentley marriage with Docia Merrill Sept 18, 1856. Genessee, MI. It could be our Perry or someone else.
Here is s scan of the Perry Miller Bentley family. Note the DAvises nearby. Jonathan Davis died on TB a couple of years later. It is a question as to who Sylvia Benetly married. Jonathan is a J.E. Davis, but there is also another J.E. Davis in Macomb county. Will check wtih my next visit to the library in Indy. The Lds database said that Sophia married a J.E. Davis, but Fenita did not know his first name. This Je Davis is married to a margaret and is way too young. The Calvin Davis here is the son of the original calvin Davis, an impt. early resident of Macomb. Carole

You should look at the Macomb County website. It has lots of the names under the various townships of families the Bentleys married into...If you click on the various townships on the map, you will get the history of each township. Examples are: Lester Giddings (probably the father of Levi), Chauncey Church, John Longstaff (related to Mary Longstaff?). On page two, it says, M. Bentley, shoemaker. do you suppose that was Perry Miller?http://www.libcoop.net/mountclemens/1875map.htm At the end of hte hsitory of Ray township, it talks of Brooklyn, also known as Davis. It was half a mile from the vorner of the four townships of shelby, Macomb, Washington, and Ray. Then, in the deaths of early Macomb settlers, it has Mrs. Mercy Giddings,, Dr. J.E. Davis, E.R. Bentley,, Lester Giddings, and Mrs. Levi Giddings, Daughter of P.M. Bentley (Augusta) Carole
Fenita does not have a death date for P. Miller Bentley.

from Carole Bartlett MacKay, Dec 1999:
George,
Thanks so much for the family group records. They shed some light on several things I have had questions about.
I did not have death dates for Mary or Perry M. I had Sylvia Davis as the spouse of Martin V.B. Do you know the father of Sylvia or Sylva? I also did not have the spouse of Perry Miller as Mary Reed. All this is helpful. When I get all my stuff corrected, I will send it to you and see what you think. I also know a little about the children of Miller...and, of, course, quite a bit about the Allen Peter Bentley family which I will send you when it is ready. Thanks, carole
