Biography

Abel was born in 1727, in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, British Colonial America, he son of Benjamin Woodward and Mary Wright. [1]


In 1765, he is noted to be one of the first settlers of Marlborough, New Hampshire, however records identifying all members of the family that went with him are minimal. [2] He served in civil service capacity towards the Revolutionary War efforts for the state of New Hampshire, On March 11, 1777, the town of Marlboro, New Hampshire, had their first town meeting, and appointed Abel Woodward as constable. [2]

He married Elizabeth Tucker[3], on Jul 29, 1753, in Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts, with whom he had the following known children:

  1. Abijah, who married "Polly" (likely named Mary), dau. of Isaac and Lois (Townsend) Gibbs.
  2. Stephen Woodward, who married Jemima (Newton) Woodward. They removed to Vermont from Marlborough in about 1800. (Bemis, page 704)[2]
  3. Lydia Woodward, who married William Hill.


He passed away in 1821. [4]
