Biography

William was born in Parkman, Piscataquis County, Maine on 19 November 1833 to Adams Macomber and Betsey Briggs. <1>

He received a limited common school education, but gained a fair knowledge of general subjects through reading of books and papers. <6>

In 1850, when he was 17 years old, he moved to Elkhart County, and at the age of 18 years, when his father died, he began a life for himself by daily labor at various things, principally carpentering for about nine years. <6>

On 16 September 1861, he married Belinda Hess in Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana. <2>

in 1866 he moved to German Township, where he began a career in farming. He also worked in saw-milling for about twenty years. <3,4,5,6>

He was a member of the United Brethren Church. <6>

He was reported to be a Republican politically, and to be "one of the representative and progressive citizens" of Marshall County, Indiana. <6>

He passed away on 12 July 1909 and was buried in Bremen Cemetery. <7>
