Research Notes

10/20/2019-The following info provided by Katie Stetter Card. According to my grandmother, Marion Stetter, Emma (Marion's grandmother) was a descendant of the Adams presidents. I confirmed that Emma was adopted. Sourced from p.60 of the Wisconsin, Wills and Probate Records, 1800-1987 of Emma's adoptive mother, Lucinda Davis Rose. Emma's adoptive parents, Jeremiah and Lucinda Rose died in 1886. It wasn't until the 1900 Federal Census, that Emma's parents are listed as being born in Maine. Jeremiah Rose was born in Ohio and Lucinda Davis Rose was born in Kentucky. I suspect she had recently learned that she was adopted since her parents' birth places were only listed as Maine this one time, in the 1900 census record...so it's as if she recorded it that way for posterity. These must have been her birth parents since her adoptive parents were born elsewhere according to the other census records. So, as of 10/20/2019, I don't know if Emma was born in Maine or Wisconsin, although census records show she was born in Wisconsin. Did her birth parents move from Maine to Wisconsin where they had her? How did she come to be adopted? Was Emma a product of an unmarried couple? Did her birth parents die? Are her birth parents the missing Adams president link? I think so because I have 3 documents showing her maiden name as Adams.
