1776 STICKER?

Biography

Samuel Spurr was born 12 Nov 1754 in the Massachussetts Bay Colony to Thomas Spurr and Mary Redman Spurr. He was one of 10 children. He married his first cousin, Olive Spurr, on 10 Oct 1780 in Stoughton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. The census of 1790 shows that Spurrs were located at Soughton, Shelburne, Charlton, Ashfield, Topsfield and Dorchester.

Samuel was a private in Captain James Endicott's company of militia and Colonel Lemuel Robinson's regiment, which marched on the alarm in 1775.

He also marched from Stoughton on March 4, 1776 at the time of the fortifying of Dorchester Heights, and in April, 1777 to Bristol, RI.

Samuel died 25 May 1829 in Colrain. He is buried in Shelburne Falls.

Of note: James Endicott was Captain of a company of Stoughton militia that responded to the Lexington alarm of 19 April 1775. He received his commission on 23 March 1776. His company assisted in fortifying Dorchester Heights, went to Moon Island when the British fleet was driven out of Boston Harbor, and was at Ticonderoga from 11 Sep to 17 Nov 1776. He was also at Roxbury in 1778.
