Joseph Jolly, son of Henry Jolly was christened at St. Enoder church, Cornwall on 27 February 1712.[1][2]
Joseph married Mary Bond in Ladock on 13 August 1739. [3][2]
Joseph was buried in Ladock on 15 January 1783. A certificate was received to the effect that he was "buried in Wollen". [4][2][5]
Three children are associated with Joseph Jolly and Mary Bond:
Parents of Joseph Jolly:
Henry Jolly: Christened St Enoder, Cornwall 22 January 1676.[9]
He married Mary Rose in Bodmin on 4 November 1701.[10] He was buried at St Enoder on 9 December 1745.[11]
Mary Rose: Nothing found beyond marriage entry.(Was Rose her surname or is this a mistranscription? Looks like it could be Ross?)
Parents of Henry Jolly:
Joseph Jolly (1632 - 1708) Christened on 10 March 1632 at St. Enoder.[12]
No marriage record found. Many online trees have Joseph Jolly married to Charity Sexton but no record has been found to confirm this. A Charitye Sexton was baptised in St. Columb Major on 25 May 1631. Her parents were Henry and Phillepp Sexton. While this is possible (St Columb being an adjacent parish), and no other contestants with the name Charity being found, this cannot be taken as certain.
Charity Jolly was buried at St. Enoder on 17 April 1702 Burial St. Enoder
Henry and Phillip Sexton baptised Hughe on 29 June 1628 (Jewers index). NOTE: a Henry Sexton was buried in TRURO on 17 July 1659.
Parents of Joseph Jolly:
Jospeh Jolly (above) was the 7th child of Joseph Jolly and Joan Coryn:
Joseph Jolly was christened at St Enoder on 23 April 1598.[13]
He married to Joan Coryn (she was sister of John Coryn who married Joseph's sister Christabell.) I have found a reference to a Marriage Settlement on a roots web site but have not been able to find an image or direct transcript with a link to a document. No marriage entry has been found on the appropriate page in the St Enoder register and it is not in the Cornwall OPC.
Joseph is listed on the May 1641 Protestation for St Enoder. It is not clear if he signed himself or whether his name was recorded by someone else. . [15]
He was buried at St Enoder on 1 April 1657.[16]
Joan Coryn's pedigree appears in Visitations of the Country of Cornwall following the Coryn line to "Coryn of Kenwyn". The pedigrees of the woman who married into this line are also included.
Parents of Joseph Jolly:
Joseph's father was William Jolly, the Vicar of St. Enoder. [17]
William Jolly was possibly the son of Thomas Joell (Jolly) and Katherine Averye, christened at St Enoder on 18 October 1572 (1).
He married Katherine Warne at “St Ervyn” on 25 June 1594, and the marriage was entered into the register of St Enoder.
The Warnes appear to have been a prominent Cornwall family based in the adjacent parish of St. Columb. Major (4). (Jewers, p. 292 and p. 212. William Jolly was buried 29 May 1628.[18] William Jolly vicar S. Enoder buried 29 May 1628 St. Enoder.-https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6XWH-1SK?i=70&wc=3CB8-92Q%3A138123201%2C141276901%2C1582892005&cc=1769414 Burial St. Enoder]
Jewell suggests that Katherine was the daughter of John Warne of St. Columb.[19]
Their daughter Christabel married John Coryn [20]
