Biography

Ruth was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1734, the daughter of John and Ruth (Miller) Stevenson.[1]

She married James Nelson in Springfield, Mass., in 1756.[2] They had at least two, and possibly four, children:

  • Chloe, b. 30 August 1762, Westfield, Massachusetts
  • Lydia, b. 2 May 1765, Westfield, Massachusetts

The family lived in Westfield, and later settled in Southwick, Massachusetts. They joined the Southwick Congregational Church on February 20, 1774. When Southwick responded to the call from Lexington on April 19, 1775, James Nelson and his father-in-law John Stevenson were both among those who responded.

After James's war service, the couple moved to the newly-established town of Sandisfield, Massachusetts.[3]

Could she be the Ruth Nelson, widow, who died in West Springfield, Massachusetts, on May 31, 1809?[4]
