Son of Stephen Charles Moore and Anna Pennefather; Husband of 1st Ida Mary Bourne married in Brisbane - 15th July 1882 and 2nd to Florence Ida Phelan - 29th April 1899. BORN AT "BARNE" CLONMEL, Co TIPPERARY IRELAND - LIEUTENANT in the DUKE of CLARENCE MUNSTER REGIMENT - MAJOR in the SOUTH IRISH DIVISION of the ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY. ARRIVED in BRISBANE QUEENSLAND in 1878 and COMMISSIONED as MAJOR in QUEENSLAND VOLUNTEER DEFENCE FORCE. He was AIDE-de-Campe to Prince George of Wales. Duke of York. He was Honorary Aide-de-Campe to the Governor of Queensland - Sir Arthur Edward Kennedy and Sir Anthony Musgrave (1883-1888) 1885 He was made Police Magistrate; District Registrar and Registrar of the District Court, Charleville, Queensland. 1 Jan 1907 He was Appointed as 2nd Police Magistrate. 1 Jul 1912 He was Appointed Senior Police Magistrate. He retired in 1917 with the Honorary Military Rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Richard was born in 1848 at the Townland of Frankfort in Co. Cork, Ireland. He was the second son of Stephen Charles Moore, J.P. and D.L., 12th Moore of Barne, Co. Tipperary, Ireland and High Sheriff of that County. His mother was the daughter of Colonel Kingsmill Pennefather.
He was educated at a preparatory school in the north of England and at Cheltenham College.
In 1873 he became a Subaltern in the Royal Artillery, rising to Acting Brigade Major of the 5th Brigade, South Irish Division of the Royal Artillery and instructor of artillery to the Tipperary County Artillery Militia.
After a breakdown in health he took leave in 1877 and spent time with a younger brother who was ranching in Virgina, USA.
After returning to Ireland he went to Australia and while there was offered the position of Staff Officer of the Queensland Volunteer Defence Force. He took up duties as Major of Brigade on 02 Apr 1881, the day after arriving in Brisbane.
He married Ida Mary Bourne, the daughter of John Bourne, a civil engineer in Brisbane and incidentally an officer in the QLD Volunteer Defence Force in 1882. There were 5 children.
Following his first wife's death, he remarried to Florence Ida Phelan in 1899.
He passed away in 1929. [1]
