S.U. Appelgren, former farmer, now living at Bishop Hill, born 17 Aug 1834 in Alfta, emigrated 1857, first worced for others in Fulton Co, soon became his own near Wataga, from where he later moved to east of Bishop Hill. Sold his farm a few years ago, now living off his money. Appelgren married the second time in 1871 with Märtha Danielsson from Ore in Dalarna; has one child from his first marriage. Well off, methodist and prohibitionist.
Johnson&Peterson has one of his initials wrong. The name of the second wife was Margreta (Margaret) rather than Martha or Märtha - However the name forms for these two names tended to flow into each other in northern Sweden at that time with Margta or Märgta as intermediates.
Buried in Bishop Hill, IL cemetery. Grand daughter lived with him.
