Biography

John Wright, shipowner and landed proprietor, mayor of Wallsend, 1812–29; of Dockwray Square, Tynemouth, and of Wallsend Hall, Wallsend-on-Tyne, Northumberland; b. North Shields, 23 Feb 1767; m. Christ Church, North Shields, Tynemouth, 10 June 1795, Lydia Clark (b. North Shields, July 1769; d. Jan 1830), dau. of William Clark, shipowner, of Dockwray Square, North Shields, and of Wallsend Hall, first mayor of Wallsend, 1802–4, ‘a native of Long Houghton’ (d. 16 Aug 1810, aged 69), by (m. Long Houghton, 20 Mar 1758) Elizabeth Thompson (bapt. Tynemouth, 3 May 1743; d. 9 Oct 1788) (dau. of Andrew Thompson by Eleanor Pots).

He died intestate (leading to litigation in the family) at Wallsend Hall, 17 Jan 1839, having had 10 children.
