Rebecca "Becky" Ann Wood b. 07 Feb 1960 Dayton, Montgomery Co, OH d. 24 Oct 2012 TN bur. Hendersonville, Sumner Co, TN;^[1] m. 14 Nov 1981 Cheatham Co, TN Frank McWhorter 21 Sep 1951.^[2]

Becky was the 1st cousin 3x removed of Gen. George Armstrong Custer, one of America's most illustrious calvary generals. As a young brigadier general at Gettysburg on 03 Jul 1863, Custer led the Michigan Calvary in the Civil War, defeating Jeb Stuart's assault on Cemetery Ridge while being greatly outnumbered. On 25 Jun 1876 in the Indian Wars, Lieutenant Colonel Custer led the 7th Cavalry at the Battle of Little Bighorn in Montana Territory against a coalition of Native American tribes and was killed along with a third of his command later romanticized as "Custer's Last Stand."^[3]

Becky Ann McWhorter, 52, of Hendersonville, passed away on Oct.24. McWhorter was a devoted Christian, had a passion for working with young people, and an amazing person who changed the lives of so many people. She worked in the administration department at Kohl’s of Hendersonville. McWhorter is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mildred Wood and son, Brent McWhorter. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Frank McWhorter; daughters, Ashley Brake andTracy Wilson (Jamie); grandchildren, Haley and Logan Wilson; brother, Mark Wood; sister, Susan Smart (Robert), in-laws, Nanny and PaPa McWhorter and several nieces and nephews.A Life Celebration for McWhorter was set for Friday, Oct.26 at the Hendersonville First Baptist Church. Visitation was set for Thursday at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Interment was scheduled to follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Pallbearers expected were Logan Wood, Grant Wood, Jordan Phillips,Terry Jones, Jamie Wilson, Logan Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were to be the Kohl’s family.
