George was born in about 1865 in India (sources variously list East India, East Indies, British India, and Bombay, India; primary source needed). His parents, Simon O'Connell and Frances O'Brien, were born in Ireland.
He immigrated to the United States in about 1880 (1900 census says 1880, another source says 1883; primary source needed).
He married Mary Ellen Welsh in about 1885 (primary source needed).
In 1900 at age 35, he was a bricklayer and lived in Manhattan, New York with his wife Mary (35), children William (14), Mary (11), Frances (9, listed as "son"), and Ann (5). According to the census he immigrated in 1880 (mistranscribed at FamilySearch as 1890) and had been in the United States for 20 years, and was a naturalized citizen; his parents were born in Ireland.[1]
In 1905 at age 40, he was a bricklayer and lived in Manhattan, New York, with his wife Mary (age 40), children William (18, a bricklayer's helper), Mary (16, manicurist), Frances (15, stock at dry goods store), George Jr. (13, at school), and Ann (10, at school), plus boarders Kate Burke (45, housework) and Phillip Burke (10, at school).[2]
He died in 1907 at age 43 in at 300 E. 59th Street, Manhattan, and was buried in Calvary Cemetery, New York. His parents are listed on the death record as Simon O'Connell and Francis O'Brien, both born in Ireland.[3]
Where is son George Jr. in the 1900 census? That census states that Mary had 4 children, but there are 5 in the 1905 census.
To research and add: Possible sister Letitia O'Connell, born Bombay, India, died Mineola, New York (unsourced Ancestry tree).[4]
