The Birth Date is a rough estimate. See the text for details.

Fortún Galíndez, a powerful nobleman in the Kingdom of Pamplona, was the Duke of Nájera. [1] His birth date is not known and has been estimated using the estimation made for his father, Galindo Unknown, 0865, considering that he (Galindo) was 30 years old when his son Fortún was born, i.e., estimated @ 0895. Fortún died some time after 30 Nov 0972 (last document he appears in). [2] His birth and death places are unknown but given his connection with Sancho I Garcés, King of Pamplona, who entrusted him with Nájera, Pamplona, Al-Ándalus, has been used for his birth place, and Nájera, Kingdom of Vigueira (it was the Kingdom of Pamplona during his lifetime, between 0923-0970), for when he died. The name of his mother is not known.

Fortún married Velasquita Sánchez, the fourth daughter of Toda Aznárez and Sancho I Garcés, the King of Pamplona mentioned above. Velasquita married three times. Apparently, she had children only with her first spouse. [3]

  1. Munio Vélaz, Count of Álava (domni Momi comitis Bizcahiensis, -bef 0930),with whom she had four children:
    1. Aznar Muñoz (Azenari Momiz)
    2. Lope Muñoz (Lupe Momiz)
    3. Sancho Muñoz (Sanzio Momiz)
    4. Velasquita Muñoz (domna Belasquita)
  2. Galindo (Bernárdez) de Ribagorza, son of Count Bernardo I Unifredo (Raimúndez) de Ribagorza. According to one source, they married around 0930, [4] but the date is incompatible with the birth date estimated for him, 0917.
  3. Fortún Galíndez, Governor and eventually, Duke, of Nájera.
