Biography

Edith Rivet was the daughter of Joseph Arvilien Rivet and Angela Marroy. She was probably born shortly after April 1910 in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[1]

Edith was enumerated with parents and siblings on the 1920 Census, living in Morganza, Pointe Coupee Parish. She could read and write, and was attending school.^[2]

Edith was not present with her parents in the 1930 census.

Edith married Earl George Geier, son of Charles A Geier and Josephine Heule or Herrle, on 22 October 1932 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish.^[3][4][5] They had at least three children.^[6]

A review of New Orleans city directories shows that Earl wasn't in the 1933 directory, but shows up in 1935 at 1519 Monticello Avenue. Perhaps this is where he and Edith were living.^[7]

Research Notes

Possible 1930 census. There is an Edith Rivet, age 19, on the 1930 census at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Orleans Parish. She was one of many trained nurses, doctors, and nuns working and living there.^[8] It's possible this is a different Edith, but no other records for Ediths have been found of the right age that would fit the person on this census. This could be her, but more research is needed.

Edith in N.O., student nurse? An Edith was found in the 1932 New Orleans City Directory, living at Charity Hospital as a student nurse.^[9]

1. ↑ Her birth in 1910 was estimated from the 1910 and 1920 censuses. In 1910, she was not present when her family was enumerated on 2 May; in 1920 she was age 10 4/12, indicating a birth of Sep 1909. Birth in 1909 doesn't seem likely, so probably the age given in the 1920 census is incorrect, and she was born shortly after the family's enumeration in 1910.
