Biography

Thornton was born about 1823 in Ohio.

On September 30th, 1846 in Gallantin, Illinois he married Susan Lambert.^[1] The couple had 5 children; Ruth, William Harry, Isabella, Elizabeth and Courtney. They initially settled in Somerset Illinois where Thornton was a farmer.^[2] Between 1850 and 1860 the family moved from Illinois to Western Arkansas in Sugar Loaf Township, Sebastian County.^[3]

March 1st, 1860 Thornton purchased 82.94 acres of land in Sebastion County.^[4]

Thornton passed away sometime before April 5th, 1865 as the Freedmens Bureau Record, record of refugee lists his daughter Ruth as head of the house hold and the notes states that Thornton was killed...the picture of the page was cut off not allowing you to see what or who killed Thornton.^[5]
