Biography

Temperance was born in 1740, the daughter of Joseph Stewart and Mary Hall, of Mansfield Connecticut, who were among the first settlers of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia^{[1] [2] [3] [4] [5]}

On July 6, 1767, she married Capt Barnabas Eldredge, son of Barnabas and Mary (Hurd) Eldredge of Chatham, who was one of the first settlers of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia^{[2] [3] [4] [5]}

Their children included:

1. Temperance, born August 23, 1768, who married Joseph Marshall, son of Anthony of Marshalltown, Digby^{[2] [5]}
2. Lucy, born September 17, 1770^{[2] [5]}
3. Ebenezer, born October 9, 1772, who married Olive Trask, daughter of Samuel and then married Anna (Ellenwood) Carey, widow of Thomas Carey^{[2] [5]}
4. Joseph, born December 30, 1774, who married Rebecca Harris, daughter of Benjamin^{[2] [5]}
5. Stephen, born Feb 24, 1782, who died unmarried^{[2] [5]}
