Biography

Jadwiga was born in 1879. She was the daughter of Gregory Nanik and Jadwiga Wodarz. She passed away in 1952. [1]

Obituary Heart Ailment Is Fatal to Mother: Rites Held For Mrs. Ostrowski Browerville--Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church for Mrs. Ostrowski. Rev. S. Kuzniak officiated and interment was made in the church cemetery with the following as pallbearers; Henry Brenny, Tony Masonic, Tom Kotula, John Knosalla, Tom Malloy and John Goligowski. Mrs. Ostrowski had been in failing health for several years. She died last week Wednesday, Aug. 20 at her home, cause of death being coronary thrombosis. She was the former Hattie Nanik, daughter of Hattie and Gregory Nanik and was born Sept. 18, 1879 in Poland. She came to the U.S. with her parents in 1885 [1886], directly to St. Paul where the family lived until 1887 when they moved to this vicinity and Ward, where they made their home on a farm. She was married Oct. 20, 1896 at St. Joseph's Church here, to Joseph Ostrowski, by Fr. Joseph Dudek.

Mr. and Mrs. Ostrowski settled on a farm in Ward, where they continued to live until about 13 years ago when they retired and moved to the village. She was of a quiet nature, a kind and considerate neighbor and friend, her chief interest being in her family and home. She was a devout member of St. Joseph's Church, the Rosary, and Sacred Heart Societies. She is survived by her husband and nine children, as follows: Mrs. Felix (Gertrude) Pozorski of Royal Centre, IN; Miss Mary Ostrowski of Mishawaka, IN; Mrs. Tony (Sophia) Kubitza, Andrew Ostrowski and Louis Ostrowski of Browerville, Mrs. J. V. (Pearl) Brown (twin of Andrew), and Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Petron of South Bend, IN; Mrs., Joseph (Eleanor) Beckers of South St. Paul, Capt. George Ostrowski of Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. All the children were present at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Petron, who was unable to travel with a baby son born August 14. Also surviving are 34 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Wm (Suzy) Daly of Hoquiam, WA; Mrs. Oscar (Mary) Lee of Bigfork, MT; Mrs. Wm. (Agatha) Brockelsby and Anton Nanik of Havre, MT; John Nanik of West Point, NE, and Mrs. John (Agnes) Klapp of Lewiston, Idaho. A large number of relatives and friends attended the rites from Staples, Wadena, Round Prairie, Little Falls, Brainerd, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Carissa and from the states of Montana, Nebraska, and Indiana.
