Notes for ALLEN MCDANIEL:

After the death of his father John McDaniel, Allen, with his mother, sisters, and brothers, moved to Pike Co., GA and settled in the 7th District near Zebulon.

About 1842 reports reached Georgia of a wonderful and unsettled country west of the Mississippi River called Texas. Texas had won her independence from Mexico. Allen and Sophia took their family and joined the next caravan going west in 1843.They sold their property, some livestock and other things that could not be taken on journey. They carried with them feather beds, pillows, quilts, clothes for the family, buckskin coats, tubs filled with dishes and cooking utensils, coffee mill, spinning wheels and looms. They also took their best milk cow.

After many weeks of traveling with the caravan, they came to Kosciusko, MS. Many of the wagon train decided to stay a year in Kosciusko before travelling on to Texas. Allen and Sophia found several more McDaniels in the area. There were twelve or more land owners and voters listed in the tax rolls, some as early as 1841. Allen and Sophia decided to stay here for a time. Allen McDaniel was listed in the Atalla Co. tax roll of 1846, but not in 1848. His wife Sophia McDaniel was listed as head of household in the 1850 census of Atalla Co., Kosciousko, MS.

Some of the family say Allen McDaniel died while on a trip to Arkansas, but was buried in McDaniel Cemetery in Kosciusko, MS.

(note from Don Watts) = (grandson of Lillie McDaniel Watts) ... Pleasant Grove cemetery at Marsena, "Searcy county", Arkansas is where several of Allen Mc Daniel's relative's are buried ... https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/McDaniel-6221
