Jonathan was born in 1826 in Tennessee or Alabama to Nathaniel Stubblefield and Polly Armstrong.
He married Susan Owens on October 19, 1848, in Osage Co., Missouri.
In 1850 they were living in Crawford township, Missouri, with their baby Henry.
Next door are his father and mother and 7 younger siblings. Everyone is farming. He is 26 and says he was born in Tennessee, and his 4 oldest siblings are listed as born in Tennessee. The youngest three were born in Illinois and Missouri.
Neither Jonathan nor Susan could read or write.
In 1860 he and Susan are living in Rolla, Phelps County. But he now says he was born in Alabama. They have 5 children at home, plus Susan's younger brother Frances Owens.
In 1863 he registered for the draft in Missouri and says he was born in Alabama in 1826.
In 1870 he and Susan have 6 kids at home. Two farms away are the Colliers, who marry the Stubblefields in the next generation.
He died on April 22, 1873, in Phelps Co., Missouri.
