Adam C. was born about 1844 in Screven County, GA to Adam Cornelius Brinson and Cynthia Burke Brinson.[1][2] A family group sheet compiled by Dorothy Perry in the 1950s, presumably made using information from a family bible, shows him as Adam Cornelius Brinson, Jr. who was born 9 Nov 1844. Since I'm unable to confirm the original source of the dates, I'm using about 1844 for Adam's birth date. I also can find no other document showing his middle name as Cornelius, so I'm using only C. as his middle initial. – Kenneth D. Dixon.
Civil War Service
He enlisted as a private in the "Ogeechee Rifles," 1st Company D, 25th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee, C.S.A., on 1 Oct 1861.[3]
Census
1850 United States Census: Adam C. Brinson was living in the household of his father Adam C. Brinson in Screven County, GA.[1]
1860 United States Census: Adam C. Brinson was living in the household of Simeon Burke in Screven County, GA.[4]
Death
According to a biography of his brother Capt. David W. Brinson, Adam is presumed to have died of pneumonia near Chickamauga, and was carried away before the beginning of the battle. No one in his family heard from him again.[5] The Battle of Chickamauga was fought between 18 Sep and 20 Sep 1863, so Adam most likely died sometime before then in Catoosa County or Walker County, GA, or in Tennessee before the Confederate army retreated from Chattanooga.[6]
