Arthur French was born about 1786. He was the son of Arthur French and Margaret Costello.
Arthur married Mary McDermott, daughter of Christopher McDermott, in 1818.
Arthur was Member of Parliament for County Roscommon between 1821 and 1832.
Arthur was created first Baron de Freyne of Artagh, County Roscommon on 16 May 1839.
Arthur was created first Baron de Freyne of Coolavin, County Sligo on 5 April 1851, with a special remainder to his brothers.
Arthur died on 29 September 1856, without issue. Upon his death, his barony of Artagh became extinct.
