John Leavitt married Abigail Soule, who was a cousin to his mother.[3] On 17 Apr 1824, John Leavitt of Livermore, Maine, and Abigail Saul of Turner, Maine, published at Turner their intention to marry.[4] Their first child was born at Livemore on 28 Apr 1825.[5]

John Leavitt was a resident of Rochester, Massachusetts, when he married Abigail Howland in October 1804.[2] Their first child was recorded at Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusett) in November 1805.[5] He remained at Livermore until his death.

John Leavitt had the following children, all born at Livermore, Maine (in Massachusetts until 1820), as shown in the vital records of Livermore.[5] The first eight were with his first wife, Lydia (Howland) Leavitt, the last three with his second wife, Abigail (Soule) Leavitt. John Leavitt died on 12 Jan 1848, and he is buried at the Leavitt Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, where his gravestone gives his age at his death as 66.[6]
