Mordechai was born May 15, 1880 in Toehmach, Russian Empire.[1]
Mordechai married Anna Unknown about 1907[2]
and they had at least three children[1]
(see Notes).
Mordechai and Anna immigrated to the United States, leaving from England aboard the SS Noordam and arriving December 30, 1907 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.[1]
Mordechai declared his intention to become a United States citizen May 2, 1917 in Pennsylvania, United States.[1]
He began using the name Max Pechero about that time.
Max lived at 516 Brown Street in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States when he registered for the World War I draft September 12, 1918. He was a machinist, working for International Ship Building at Hog Island, Pennsylvania, United States and his nearest relative was shown as Annie Pechero. Max was of medium height and slender, with black hair and brown eyes.[3]
Max and Anna lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin, United States, at 67 North Fremont Avenue in 1921, when Max is shown as a laborer, and at 527 Grand Avenue in 1923, when he is shown as a machinist.[4]
Mordechai lived at 853 North 15th Street in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States and was a pleater when he became a naturalized United States citizen January 23, 1924. His petition was witnessed by A Arshinau, a tailor living at 1015 Bainbridge Street in Philadelphia and H Kityman, a salesperson living at 1546 North 6th Street in Philadelphia and his name was legally changed to Max Pechero.[1]
After Anna's death in 1927,[5]
in 1930 Max (age 49) paid $40 per month rent for his home at 3355 North 5th Street in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, where he lived with children Morris (age 21), Emanuel (age 16), and Lillian (age 14). Max was a tailor in a tailor shop, Morris was a department store salesman, and Emanuel was a furniture store porter.[2]
Max married Rose Unknown between 1930 and 1941 (when Rose died).[5]
