Biography

George was born about 1744 in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony.

On September 6, 1788 George's father signed a will making George and his older brother, Thomas, Jr. executors and beneficiaries of his estate. Their duties included providing for their mother in her widowhood and their sister Mercy who must have been handicapped in some was and the will expressed that they be her guardian if she became in need of one. The other living heirs included George's mother, and two married sisters: Mary Hatch, and Lucy Cushing. He also left property to a household servant, Martha Ramsdall. His father died in January 1895. [1]

In the 1800 U. S. Census [2] George was listed in Pembroke, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He would have been about fifty-four years old. There were three females in the household who are unidentified at this time. It is possible that they included his mother, Mary, and sister Mercy and the house hold servant who was mentioned both in his father's will and his own, Martha Ramsdell.

George died about the December 21, 1804 in Pembroke, Plymouth County, Massachusetts at the age of sixty. He signed a will on that date. [3] He mentioned two sisters, Lucy Cushing and Mary Hatch (dec.) ; and brothers: Thomas Turner, Charles Turner (dec,). It also mentions nieces and nephews, Nathaniel Cushing (son of Lucy), Charles and John Turner (sons of Charles), Seth, Josiah and Abigail Hatch (children of Mary).

A death notice appeared in the Newburyport Herald on 28 December 1804 that referred to him as, "an honorable man and a good citizen." [4]
