Her parents are named in the marriage record as Gideon and Sarah of Dartmouth, Massachusetts.[2][3] In the Quaker records of the birth of their children, her birth surname is abbreviated to 'Howl.': Howland is taken from the middle name of one of the children.[4]
She died 27 May 1838.[5] She was buried in Friends Burying Ground.[5]
