Biography

When Nancy Atwater Walker was born on August 24, 1782, in Cheshire, Connecticut, her father, Thomas, was 32, and her mother, Abigail, was 27.^[1] She married Humphrey " Yankee" Smith (1774–1857) on November 25, 1803, in Cayuga, New York. They had nine children:

• Polly Smith (1804–1908)
• Doctor Richardson Smith (1806–1870)
• Erastus Johnson Smith (1808–1890)^[2]
• George Smith (1811–1897)
• Calvin Smith (1813–1909)^[3]
• Missouri Ann Smith (1816–1891)
• Damon Smith (1819–1853)
• Hiram Smith (1821–1888)
• Clark Bolivar Smith (1826–1914)

She died in March 1853 at the age of 70 and was buried in Redfield, Iowa.^[4]

Conneticut gave her life, New York her husband, Humphrey Smith; Missouri a home and eight children, Iowa a grave
