William was born in 1816. He was the son of William Graves. He married Sarah Ballinger on May 19, 1836 in Wabash, Indiana.[1] They had eleven children together.[2] She died in 1860 of "confinement" and he remarried in 1862. He married Elizabeth Cole, who had been married prior, on August 7, 1862.[3] They had at least 3 children together. He passed away in 1884.
One of William's descendants has a ydna kit which matches at least one descendant of Stephen Graves on 65/67 markers. Additionally, he carries the unique marker that all of the known ydna tests associated with Stephen Graves carries. So it is without a doubt that his grandfather was Stephen Graves from Monroe County, Tennessee. It has long been a suspicion that William was his father,[2] but there has not been any conclusive evidence until recently.
As discussed in the profile of William Graves, his father, evidence of his paternity relies on dna analysis and migration pattern analysis of others related to him. An argument could be made that William was a son of Silas, since Silas did have a son in the 1830 census in his age range.[4] William also had a son in the 1830 census in that age range.[5] It has been determined that the son in Silas' household was John William Graves and the one in William's was William, since John William followed Silas to Nodaway County, Missouri and William stayed behind in Indiana with two of his brothers, Adam and John.
