Jonas was born 7 August 1813 to corporal Johan Hedström in Tvinnesheda, Nottebäck, and his wife Annica Pettersdotter.[1][2] He followed his parents to Flyholmen in Åseda parish when his father retired.[3]
In 1833 Jonas Hedström followed his elder brother Olof Gustaf to America. They were both methodists and licensed preachers. He was a blacksmith and moved to Illinois where he was successful in his trade. He married Diantha Sornberger. They settled in Knox County and were among the founders of the town Victoria. Jonas Hedström used to preach in English, but when the Jansonist emigrants arrived in Illinois in 1846 he brushed up his Swedish, and found followers among them. He died 11 May 1859.[4]
The marriage to Diantha Sornberger took place 17 August 1839.[5]
