Biography

Adaline Ree was born Sept. 27, 1837 ^[1]in Washington County, New York State, most likely around Hartford or Hebron, Washington County as her future husband was from that area. Adaline was the third known child of eleven and the second of five daughters for Joseph Kee of Scotland and Endora Whaley from Ireland.

Adaline is first found at 13 years old, in the U.S. 1850 census ^[2] living with her parents and nine other siblings at Argyle, Washington County, NY.

She is next found at 18 years old in the 1855 New York state census ^[3] still with her parents at Argyle, NY. This census records her birth place as Orange County, New York.

In the U.S. 1860 census ^[4] Adaline is now 22 years old and is still living with her parents at Argyle, NY. She is now the eldest child still at home and has six siblings with her and her parents.

Adaline married Jean Baptiste LaBossiere about 1862 most likely in Hebron or Hartford, Washington County, New York. Jean Baptiste was the fourth child of eight and the second of five sons for Jean Baptiste Labossière and Celeste Lord. Two of his older siblings, who were twins died as infants, so he would never know them. He was the second child in this family to be named Jean Baptiste, after an earlier son with the same name had died as an infant. The marriage record has not been found, but they are listed as being married 38 years in the U.S. 1900 census. ^[5] John's surname, Labossiere has somehow become, "Buzzell". John's birth is recorded as June 1834 in Quebec which matches his baptism. The 1901 marriage record of his son, Walter LaBossiere - Bussell ^[6] shows that John Bussell was married to Adaline Kee. John and Adeline probably had ten children, born in New York State between 1862 - 1885. They had three boys and seven girls, but sadly two children died young.

John and Adaline are next found in the U.S. 1870 census ^[7] living at Hebron, NY. They have three young children. The family surname has already been corrupted to Bunel which will variously become Buzzell or Bussell.

By 1875, John LaBossiere, AKA Bussell and his family have moved to Saratoga, NY and they are foun din the 1875 New York state census ^[8]

John LaBossiere - Buzzell and his wife, Adaline Kee are next found in the U.S. 1880 census ^[9] John's widowed father, Jean Baptiste LaBossiere, AKA John Bussell is also living with them at this time. They are still in Saratoga County, NY, living at Malta.

John and Adeline are next found in the New York 1892 state census ^[10] still in Saratoga County, NY, but they have now moved to Ballston. They have six children with them.

US 1900 census New York, Saratoga, ED 105 Ballston Spa Village, Sheet 7B, lines 74-77 Jean Baptiste Labossiere AKA Buzzell and his wife, Adaline Kee with two children, Walter, aged 29 and Addie, aged 19. They also have a young boarder with them. ^[11] In this census, Adeline has indicated that she has had nine children and that three of them have died before this census.

Jean Baptiste LaBossiere, AKA John Bussell died Oct. 27, 1904 at Ballston Spa, Saratoga, NY and he was buried at the village cemetery. ^[12] His wife, Adaline Kee died there on May 24, 1909 and they share a common resting place.

It is not known how the name changed from Labossiere to Bussell or Buzzell, but John's date of birth on his gravestone and other records match his baptism record thus it is felt that this is the same person.
