Arthur Amherst was born on January 21, 1618, in Kent, England, to Geffrey, and Joan. He married Eleanor Tresse on January 1, 1652, in London, London, England. They had six children in 22 years. He died on July 2, 1678, in Tunbridge Hill, Kent, England, at the age of 60, and was buried in Horsmonden, Kent, England. Note: Horsmonden is a village in the borough of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, England. The village is located in the Weald of Kent.
