Biography

Eliza was born in 1807, 7th in descent from Thomas Rogers and 8th in descent from William Brewster. She was the daughter of Samuel Harding and Hannah Grant.

Eliza married Oliver L Paine. They were the parents of four known children, all born and raised in Jay, Maine:

1. Orlando Paine b. 9 Feb 1823
2. Ansel Willard Paine b. 1 Jun 1826, d. 29 Dec 1899 at Jay
3. Ambrose Paine b. 14 Mar 1833, d. 8 Apr 1890
4. Celestia O Paine b. 10 Jul 1841, d. 21 Feb 1916 at Rumford, Maine

The 1860 US census for Jay, Maine conducted 18 Jun 1860 lists residents Consider F Blasdel [sic] (23), a shoemaker, Celestia O Blasdel [sic], an unnamed Blasdel [sic] female (3 months), and Eliza Paine (58), widowed. Consider owns property valued at $40 and has a personal estate valued at $100 while Eliza has a personal estate valued at $100. NOTE: The family surname is misspelled and is "Blaisdell". The unnamed female child is Lizzie Eva Blaisdell.

The 1880 US census for Jay, Maine lists head of household Eliza Paine (73), widowed, keeping house, daughter Celestia O Blaisdell (38), married, a seamstress, grandson Charles M Blaisdell (17), a farm laborer, granddaughter Rossia G Blaisdell (7), and granddaughter Lizzie E Fenderson (20), married, employed as a servant.

She passed away in 1885 and is buried at the Jay Hill Cemetery, Jay, Maine.

Research Notes

A cemetery record for Eliza was created in July of 1960 and is included in the Faylene Hutton Maine cemetery records that shows that Eliza passed away on 23 October 1849. That record was used to create a Find a Grave memorial record # 122009423. That date is the date her husband Oliver L Paine passed away. Her correct date of death is 8 May 1885, and the correct Find a Grave reference is attached below. That reference includes a photo of her tombstone. engraved with her date of death.
