William was born in 1816. His parents were Reverend Robert Pedder Buddicom (1781-1846) and Ellin Barber.[1]
At age 15, he was apprenticed to Mather, Dixon and Company to become a railway engineer. He worked as Resident Engineer on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, Glasgow-Paisley railway and Grand Junction Railway with Joseph Locke. He was one of the two main designers (with Alexander Allan) of the Crewe-type locomotive. In 1840 he moved to France to help make the railway system profitable with Locke. He later worked with partners Basile Parent and Thomas Brassey until they died in 1866 and 1870. He then wound up the company and effectviely retired to Wales.[1]
He passed away in 1887.
