Archibald married Martha Elizabeth Kelso November 11, 1817. They had four sons, Joseph Kelso, John Smith, James Montgomery and Milton Marcus, six daughters, Mary Jane, Nancy Ann Hines, Emma Augusta, Martha Elizabeth " Lizzie", Elizabeth Cornelia and Henrietta Polk "Etta.
They made their home in Haywood County until around 1847, they moved to Shelby County, Tennessee, only to returned to Haywood Co. December 1856 the family moved from Haywood County to Nevada County, Arkansas near Hope.
Arch and Martha crossed the Mississippi River on a raft with 6 children aboard, the oldest being 14, and the youngest less than a year. They brought a cotton gin and it was ran with one horse. They bought or homesteaded a large farm and built a huge two room log house with a wide hall between the two. " a dog-trot" Later added more to the home.
Arch ginned two bales a day while Martha ran a spinning wheel, made the thread and knitted the socks for her family. Arch made a few shoes
