Biography

Thomas Pattillo is a part of US Black heritage.

"My father's name was Thomas Smith, but the Pattillos bought him and he took the name of Pattillo. I don't know how much he sold for. That was the only time he was ever sold. I believe that my father was born in North Carolina. It seems like to me I recollect that is where he said he was born."^[1]

Thomas was born enslaved about 1813 in North Carolina and was sold! The new owner worked him in Arkansas where he raised his family. After Slavery ending in 1865 ^[2] during the reconstruction period we find the family in Arkansas.^[3]

He passed away about 1885.
