Elizabeth Helen "Bettie" Huntsberry was born on January 23, 1843, in Virginia. She was the daughter of Henry Payton Huntsberry and Lucy Gold Duvall.
In 1850, Bettie was living with her parents and siblings on a farm in Frederick County, Virginia, [1] and in 1860, the family was farming in Wadesville, Clarke, Virginia.[2]
At the age of 23, Bettie married Adam Young on May 23, 1866, in Jefferson County, West Virginia, when he was 35 years old.[3] They had five children - Henry Lee, Charles Eugene (died young), Lucy, Alice, and Bessie.
In 1870, Adam and Bettie were living with their son in Grant, Jefferson, West Virginia (next door to Bettie's parents), where Adam was working in a woolen factory.[4] Adam was still working in the woolen industry in 1880 when the family (now with three children) lived in Opequon, Frederick, Virginia.[5] In 1900, the couple lived with daughter Lucy in Kabletown, Jefferson, West Virginia, where Adam was again farming.[6] In 1910, they were living with their son Henry and family in Kabletown, Jefferson, West Virginia.[7]
Following her husband's death in 1916, Bettie lived in 1920 and 1930 with her daughter Bessie Copeland and family in Falls Church, Fairfax, Virginia.[8][9]
Bettie died in Clarendon, Arlington, Virginia, on May 21, 1932, at the age of 89.[10][11] She was buried at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town, Jefferson, West Virginia.[12]
