Evan Evans was born about 1784 in Wales. He was the son of John Evans and Anne Woodnut.
Evan married Martha Elias on November 27, 1808, in St. John, Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales (unsourced). They had ten known children - Margaret , Evan Jr., Martha, Elizabeth, David, Jane, John, Catherine, Rees, and Mary.
In March 1833, Evan and Martha along with nine children emigrated to America from Liverpool, England, traveling on the Vessel Dalmatia and arriving in New York.[1]
The family initially settled in Belleville, Essex, New Jersey.[2][3] Sometime around 1844, the family moved to Milltown (then North Brunswick), Middlesex, New Jersey.
His wife Martha died in January 1848. In 1850, Evan was working as a laborer and living with his children in North Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey.[4] In 1870, he was retired and lived with his unmarried son Evan in North Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey.[5]
Evan died in New Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey on September 13, 1871, at the age of 87 (his death record listed his occupation as carpenter).[6] He was buried at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey.[7]
