Arthur L. Campbell was born in 1859, the son of Mandeville Campbell and Caroline M. (Lovewell) Campbell.[1] His gravestone says he was born in 1859.[2] A birth record in the vital records of Livermore, Maine, based on a deposition by his brother and sister probably made sometime in 1930s, says he was born at Livermore on 15 Nov 1859.[3]
Marriage
Arthur L. Campbell married Margaret Curtis.[1] Arthur L. Campbell, teamster, 34, and Margaret Curtis, 25, librarian, married at Groveland, Massachusetts, on 15 May 1864.[4]
Children
After 13 years of marriage, Arthur and Margaret (Curtis) Campbell had their first and only known child, Alice Elizabeth Campbell, born at Haverhill, Massachusetts, on 5 Dec 1906.[5] She was recorded living with them as their daughter at the age of 3 years in the 1910 Census (where her mother is shown as the mother of one child)[6] and at 13 years old in the 1920 Census.[7]
Biographical Details
The residences of Arthur and Margaret Campbell can be traced from the 1900 through 1920 census records. There are some discrepances in their ages between the censuses (and with other records), but other information in the records makes it reasonably certain that the three records are of the same couple:
In 1900, they were living at Atkinson, New Hampshire, with Arthur's birthdate shown as November 1861 and his birthplace as Maine, Margaret's birthdate as December 1869 and her birthplace as Illinois, and Arthur's occupation as a grocer.[8] The 1928 history of Livermore, Maine, says that Arthur and Margaret Campbell lived in New Hampshire.[1]
In 1910, they were living at Haverhill, Massachusetts, with Arthur shown as 49 and born in Maine, Margaret as 39 and born in Maine. Their daughter Alice was living with them at the age of 3 with her birthplace given as Massachusetts, and the record says they had been married 16 years. Arthur's occupation was traveling salesman.[6]
In 1920, they were living at Lewiston, Maine, with Arthur's age given as 60, Margaret's as 58, and Alice's as 13. All their birthplaces were shown as Maine. Arthur is again described as a traveling salesman.[7]
