Biography

Ellen Harriett White was born about 9 November 1854, her birth being registered at Brentford, Middlesex in the last quarter of that year^[1]. She was the daughter of Luke White and Emily Stuart.

She was baptised on 13 October 1854 at St Mary the Virgin, Twickenham, Richmond Upon Thames^[2]

19 year old Ellen married widower Edward Donough O'Brien, Fourteenth Baron of Inchiquin, on 29 January 1874 in London, England^[3]. As a result of her married, she was styled as Baroness of Inchiquin.

They had the following children together:

1. Donough O'Brien (b. 29 Aug 1870, d. 23 Sep 1953)
2. Clare O'Brien (b. 17 Jan 1875, d. 21 Sep 1950)
3. Moira O'Brien (b. 13 Apr 1876, d. 20 Nov 1957)

5. Maud O'Brien (b. 19 Sep 1878, d. 8 Nov 1956)
6. Beatrice O'Brien (b. 23 Dec 1882, d. 10 Oct 1976)
7. Lilah O'Brien (b. 18 Oct 1884)
8. Henry Barnaby O'Brien (b. 9 Jan 1887, d. 7 Jan 1969)
9. Doreen O'Brien (b. 4 Mar 1888, d. 10 Jun 1960)
10. Desmond O'Brien (b. 14 May 1895, d. 1915)

Her husband Edward died on 9 April 1900.

In the 1901 England Census, Eleanor Lady Inchiquin (aged 45 and a widow) was recorded living at 4 Marble Arch, St. Marylebone, London. Also in the household were Honble Clara Obrien (26), Honble Moira Obrien (24), Honble Eileen Obrien (23), Honble Maud Obrien (22), Honble Beatrice Obrien (18), Honble Lilah Obrien (15), Honble Doreen Obrien (12), Honble Donough Obrien (20) and Honble Desmond Obrien (5), along with 10 servants.

By 1911, Ellen Lady Inchiquin (aged 56, and of Private Means) was recorded living at 59 Sloane Street, London S. W., England. Also in the household with her were Eileen Hon O Brien (33), Lilah Hon O Brien (26), Donough Hon O Brien (31), Henry Barnaby Hon O Brien (24) and Desmond Hon O Brien (15). There were also six servants in the household.

She was still living at 59 Sloane Street when she passed away on 2 March 1913 and was buried on 5 March 1913 at Brookwood Cemetery, Brookwood, Surrey, England^[4][5].

Her Will was proved at London on 3 April 1913 by her son the honourable Donough O'Brien^[6]. Effects: £3091 16s. 6d.
