Jesse Delano was the son of Ebenezer Delano and Nancy (Titus) Delano.[1][2] His age at his death from his gravestone implies a birth date of about 1801,[3] as does his age of 49 from the 1850 Census.[4] A more likely birth date, however, is 1799. His brother John was born in May 1801,[2] so unless Jesse was his twin he cannot also have been born in that year. In 1800, the household of Ebenezer Delano at Monmouth, Maine, included two male children under 10 years old,[5] and Jesse and his brother James Delano (born about 1794) are the two most likely candidates to be those children.
Residences
Jesse Delano probably moved with his parents from Monmouth to Livermore, Maine, sometime between 1810 and 1820. In 1830, he was living at Hartford, Maine,[6] and in 1840 at Canton, Maine.[7] By 1850, he had returned to Livermore,[4] where he lived until his death.
Marriage
Jesse Delano married Sarah Brown; see the Research Note below. Their first known child, Samuel Delano, was born in July 1826.[2]
Children
Jesse and Sarah (Brown) Delano had the following children, listed in the 1928 history of Livermore.[1] All except Jessie and Asa are shown in the 1850 Census,[4] and Elizabeth, Jesse, and Asa appear in the 1860 Census.[8] Their approximate ages are taken from the Census records; see their profiles for more exact dates.
The 1928 history of Livermore says Jesse Delano "lived in several different places in town and about 1860 was superintendent of the town farm."[1] In 1870, Jesse and Sarah Delano were living at Livermore with Jesse's occupation shown as "overseer of poor farm," and the household included two men and five women identified as paupers, one a woman 32 years old and the others between 72 and 80.[9]
Death
The gravestone of Jesse Delano at the Lakeside Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, says he died on 16 Apr 1877 at the age of 76.[3]
Research Note
The 1899 Delano genealogy says that Jesse Delano married Sarah Britton,[2] and the 1928 history of Livermore says that he married Sarah Brown.[1] The 1901 marriage record of their son Jesse L. Delano gives his mother's name as Sarah Brown.[10] The 1916 death record of their daughter Elizabeth (Delano) Brown gives her mother's maiden name as Brown and says she was born at Concord, New Hampshire.[11] (Research Note by WikiTree contributor Stu Bloom, 17 Nov 2020)
